Prevention of traffic accidents on school buses for children

In order to prevent traffic accidents of school buses for children in Busan, the school bus map inspection will be strengthened, and safety devices for rear pedestrians of school buses will be mandatory.

The Busan Metropolitan Police Commission (Busan Metropolitan Police Commission) announced on the 22nd that it held a “working council of related agencies” to prevent accidents and come up with countermeasures in connection with last month’s school bus accident

According to the Busan Metropolitan Police Commission, about 40 traffic accidents occur every year in the children’s protection zone in Busan.

The Busan Metropolitan Police Commission, Busan Metropolitan City, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, the National Police Agency, the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, and the Korea Highway Traffic Authority attended the meeting to discuss measures for each institution and safety accident prevention.

As a measure to prevent safety accidents, the city and the education office will strengthen map inspections of school buses for children. In addition, in addition to the joint regular inspection conducted twice a year, the government will strengthen the map inspection of children’s school buses by continuously conducting occasional inspections.

As the main cause of the accident stems from the failure of drivers and passengers to comply with safety rules, the working-level council decided to strengthen safety education and produce and attach safety rules stickers.

In addition, the recommended rear pedestrian safety device (Article 53-2 of the Regulations on the Performance and Standards of Automobiles and Automobile Parts) will be mandatory for school buses.

In addition, efforts to revise the law will be made by establishing new rules for getting on and off in a direction without safety hazards such as sidewalks and road edge areas in the “Guidelines for Childcare Business” to lay the ground for disposal in case of violation.

In addition, the city plans to revise the city’s childcare ordinance to provide a basis for the Busan Metropolitan Government to manage and supervise the safe operation of daycare center vehicles to create a safe school route.

Chung Yong-hwan, chairman of the Busan Metropolitan Police Commission, said, “We will put priority on protecting children and ask related agencies to find all possible ways, and we will do our best to establish a safe transportation culture where people take precedence.”
