Prevention of Traffic Accidents by ‘Crossroads Notification’ in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul

Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, installed an “intersection notification” at the intersection of a narrow back road in a residential area to prevent blind spots in traffic accidents.

“Crossroads Notification” is a system that prevents traffic accidents by informing pedestrians and drivers of approaching cars with lights at the intersection of the back road.

The installation section is Junggok 1-dong, and there are six intersections of residential alleys in Hwayang-dong. In residential alleys, there are many back roads that are difficult to install traffic lights, and especially at intersections, there is a high risk of traffic accidents, so “cross notification” has been installed to prevent accidents by vehicle drivers and pedestrians.

During the day, yellow LED lights are always flashing, increasing the awareness of the intersection to the vehicle driver and inducing the vehicle to slow down.

At night, the headlights of the vehicle are detected and yellow lights are flashing in the direction of the vehicle approached first, and red lights are flashing in the left and right directions at the same time to send a danger signal to the driver and pedestrians. Through this, it serves to prevent traffic accidents by inducing the vehicle driver to drive carefully.

Gwangjin-gu has installed “intersection notifications” in a total of 55 back roads around elementary schools and residential areas, and will continue to install them through the discovery of vulnerable areas for traffic safety.

Gwangjin-gu expects the installation of “cross notification” to create a safe transportation environment, reducing traffic accidents on the back roads, which are difficult to distinguish between roads and sidewalks due to narrow sidewalks.
